Privacy policy
Last updated 22 August 2026
The short version: Shim does not collect anything you type, upload or generate. Every tool runs inside your own browser, and there is no server here to send anything to.
What happens to what you enter
Nothing you put into a tool leaves your device. The tools are JavaScript that runs in your browser, so text you paste, files you open and results you generate stay on your own machine and are never transmitted.
You can verify this rather than take our word for it. Disconnect from the internet after a tool page has loaded and the tool keeps working, because there is nothing it needs to reach.
Nothing you enter is stored between visits either. Close the tab and it is gone.
Information stored on your device
Some parts of the site may remember things locally, using your browser's own storage, so that settings or progress are still there when you come back. That data is written on your device, is readable only by this site in that browser, and is never sent anywhere.
Clearing your browser's site data removes it. Nothing is kept elsewhere, so there is no copy for us to delete.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tag manager and no third-party script of any kind, so there is nothing to consent to and no banner asking you to.
Information our host sees
The site is served as static files by a hosting provider. Like any web server, theirs records ordinary request information: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user agent string. That is a normal part of serving a website and is used to deliver pages and to keep the service running.
This is the one place any information about you exists, we do not read it for analytics, and it is not connected to anything you typed into a tool.
Links that leave the site
The footer carries a link to Buy Me a Coffee, for anyone who wants to tip. It is an ordinary link: nothing is loaded from them, and they learn nothing about you unless you click it. If you do, you are on their site and their privacy policy applies.
Their embeddable widget and hosted button image were deliberately not used, because both would fetch from their servers on every page you visit here, whether or not you were interested.
Children
The site is general purpose and does not ask anyone for personal information, so it collects none from children or from anyone else.
Your rights
Data protection law, including the UK and EU GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act, gives you rights to access, correct and delete personal data an organisation holds about you.
We hold none. There are no accounts, no profiles, no mailing list and no database, so there is nothing to produce, correct or erase. If you would like to ask about this, please get in touch using the address below.
Changes to this policy
If the site ever adds something that changes any of this, advertising or accounts being the obvious examples, this page will be updated in the same release and the date at the top will change. It will not change quietly.
