Terms of use

By using Shim you agree to what follows. It is short, and it is written to be read rather than skipped.
Using the site
Every tool is free to use, for personal or commercial work, with no account and no limit. You do not need permission to use what you generate here, and we claim no rights over it. What you make is yours.
Check the output before you rely on it
This is the important part. The tools are tested carefully, and barcode check digits in particular are validated against published reference values rather than against our own implementation. Even so, no software is free of mistakes.
Before you commit to something expensive or hard to undo, verify the result. Scan a printed barcode with a real scanner before ordering a print run. Test a QR code with the phones your audience actually uses. Check a generated password works with the service you intend it for.
Treat anything generated here as a draft you have checked, not as a guarantee.
No warranty
The site and everything on it is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. That includes any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.
We do not promise the site will always be up, that it will suit your purpose, or that its output will be correct for every input.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from anything it generates. That includes lost profits, wasted print runs, lost data, business interruption and any other indirect or consequential loss, whether or not we were told such loss was possible.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Acceptable use
Do not use the site to break the law, to infringe someone else's rights, or to create something intended to deceive or defraud. Do not attempt to disrupt the site or the people using it.
Barcode numbers are worth a specific mention. Generating an EAN or UPC does not allocate that number to you. Numbers for products sold in shops are issued by GS1, and one you invent may already belong to somebody else.
The site itself
The design, text, code and artwork of Shim belong to us. You are welcome to use the tools and everything they produce. Copying the site itself is a different matter, so please ask first.
Changes
These terms may change as the site does. The date at the top shows when they last did. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the current version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
